BRADENTON, Fla. — Megan Khang threatened fans with a 59 on Saturday at the Founders Cup presented by U.S. Virgin Islands but ultimately finished with a 9-under 62 on Moving Day at Bradenton Country Club, her new career-low round on the LPGA Tour.

Starting the day at 4-under total, the Massachusetts native raced out of the gate and made birdies on her first two holes to quickly move to 6-under, picking up another birdie on the fourth hole to get to 7-under. Khang then ripped off four straight birdies on holes six, seven, eight and nine to post a 29 on the front nine and climb to 11-under for the tournament.

Now sitting at 7-under for the round, Khang parred 10 and grabbed another birdie on the par-3 11th hole to move to 12-under total with just seven holes to go. She had a bit of a misstep on the par-3 15th hole, carding her only bogey of the day after failing to get up and down after missing the green with her tee shot, but she made a late recovery, finishing her round with back-to-back birdies on the par-5 17th and par-4 18th holes to post a 62 and vault from T18 to T3 with 18 holes left in Bradenton, Fla.

“Obviously, Saturday is Moving Day, but I know I've been hitting the ball pretty great the entire week here,” said Khang. “The first couple of days just didn't have a couple of putts drop, but coming out with a birdie on the first and the second is always a good feeling. Everything felt kind of dialed in today. I was definitely happy that putts were starting to drop, and hopefully, it continues tomorrow.”

Khang was one of several athletes who competed in the 2024 LPGA Drive On Championship that was held at this venue last season, a tournament in which she ultimately finished solo third after posting a 72-hole total of 8-under, a four-day score she blitzed in one round on Saturday at the Founders Cup. While it could be a stretch to say that Khang is a horse for this course considering the LPGA Tour’s limited history here, the LPGA Tour winner definitely has a thing for Bradenton Country Club, a fact further evidenced by her third-round 62.

“I have to say I do enjoy hitting the shots into the greens,” Khang said. “I would like to think a strong suit of mine is probably my ball striking. The wind definitely plays a factor out here, but I like to flight my balls once in a while and have fun with shaping left to right, right to left. So really trying to get creative out there and embrace the challenge of the wind. The greens can get pretty slick, so just making sure I give myself the best opportunity but not getting too aggressive as well.”

At 13-under total, Khang is currently five strokes off the 54-hole lead held by Yealimi Noh, who is out front at 18-under, and is within five shots of the lead entering the final round for the first time since the 2024 Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G. If Khang were to pull out a victory on Sunday at the Founders Cup, it would be the 27-year-old’s first win since she became a Rolex First-Time Winner at the CPKC Women’s Open in 2023 and her first win in nine starts in this tournament.

And now, Khang will be riding a rather large wave of momentum into the final round after her Moving Day performance, with plenty of positive energy to be taken from a career-low score as she chases her second career LPGA Tour title. But even though Khang won’t be lingering in the past when she tees it up on Sunday, she will be working hard to recreate the mentality she had in the third round as she pursues a spot at the top of the leaderboard at Bradenton Country Club.

“Golf is never easy. I know for a fact it's definitely a mental sport as well as a physical sport,” Khang explained. “But having a day like this gives myself a little reminder that I'm pretty good at this sport. It's never a guarantee to have a good round like this, and they don't come often, as much as I would like to say, but definitely taking them whenever I can. Happy I could get it on a Saturday to hopefully give myself a run on Sunday.”
