Teeing it up this week less than 10 miles from her childhood home, Marina Alexcan’t remember the last time she played so close to Wayne, the town where she was raised. A two-time state champion for Wayne Hills High School, Alex learned the game from Ed Osowski, who is now one of the teaching professionals at Mountain Ridge.
“He is the first guy that ever gave gave me lessons, and that was at a club that I grew up playing in North Jersey in Wayne,” said Alex. “He took a job here and I would come over here and take lessons with him through high school.”
Alex hasn’t lived in New Jersey for a long time, spending her college days in Nashville at Vanderbilt and now calling South Florida home. Her mom and brother have traveled up from Florida this week and she’ll have lots of family friends outside the ropes. As one of the few players in the field with experience playing Mountain Ridge, she knows what to expect from a course that she deems major caliber.
“I think overall it's really, really well-designed and set-up golf course,” said Alex. “I think that we'll see, I would be surprised to see a super low score winning this week. I think that there are some good golfers out there, but anything over 12- or 15-under would be really, really great four days of golf.”
