Cheyenne Woods and Birdie Kim Receive Sponsor Invitations
JTBC Also Becomes Presenting Sponsor at Three Additional LPGA events
DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA, March 10, 2014 – The LPGA today announced a new partnership that will make JTBC, a leading broadcasting company in South Korea, the title sponsor for the newly-named JTBC Founders Cup in Phoenix, Ariz. The event is the Tour’s first domestic tournament in 2014 and will be staged at Wildfire Golf Club from March 20-23.
“All of us at JTBC are thrilled to be in a position to help grow the LPGA as a successful global golf tour,” said Jeongdo Hong, CEO of JTBC. “The Founders Cup honors the revolutionary women whose vision and commitment continues to extend hope and joy to golf fans around the world. At JTBC, we strive to bring those same values to life every day and look forward to sharing that legacy throughout Korea.”
In an effort to provide additional opportunities to female golfers, JTBC extended sponsor invitations to Birdie Kim and Arizona native Cheyenne Woods to the event.
Kim, the 2005 U.S. Women’s Open champion, and Woods, the recent winner of the 2014 Volvik RACV Ladies Masters, are both members of the Epson Tour – the Official Qualifying Tour of the LPGA.
The new partnership with JTBC comes on the heels of a multi-year contract extension with J Golf, the exclusive Korean television partner of the LPGA. JTBC, a broadcast affiliate of J Golf, will also become the presenting sponsor at three additional LPGA Tour events in 2014 including the North Texas LPGA Shootout, Kingsmill Championship and the Airbus LPGA Classic.
“J Golf has been a wonderful partner of the LPGA Tour and LPGA Tournaments. It was a perfect fit to have JTBC join the LPGA in celebrating our ‘original founders’, and for making a meaningful difference in getting more girls in the game,” said Mike Whan, Commissioner of the LPGA. “The new partnership will not only provide a long-term direction and focus for this wonderful tournament, but also maintain the incredible momentum we’ve seen in growing Girls Golf as a result of the tournament’s awareness and fund-raising.”
All four events will be broadcasted on JTBC’s network which is distributed to over 21 million households throughout Korea.
